Luttwak: It’s not so bad
Writing in the Jerusalem Post, Edward Luttwak says that Israel and its friends have greatly exaggerated both the badness of the Lebanon war for Israel and the effectiveness of Hezbollah. He also gives an interesting reason why the Israelis did not launch a major offensive: The very ineffectiveness of the Hez rocket attacks on Israeli civilians—with not hundreds of deaths but only one or two per day—meant it wasn’t worth Israel’s while to have an invasion of Lebanon in which hundreds of Israeli soldiers would die.
