Where will Christians fit in the coming Iraq?

If where Iraq is really headed is partition, and if it is in our and the Iraqi people’s interest that this partition be intelligently and humanely guided rather than being allowed to occur as a result of horrible violence, then we need to consider a group in Iraq that is generally ignored in the discussions of Shi’ites, Sunnis, and Kurds: the Iraqi Christians. As Robert Griffin writes in a comment at ParaPundit, in a three-part partition of Iraq, there would be no place for Iraq’s Assyrian Christians, descendants of possibly the most ancient people in the world. The Christians would be expelled from the respective Sunni, Shi’ite, and Kurdish regions. Therefore, says Griffin, a just partition requires a fourth, Christian, region.
