Why evangelical patriotism can be a problem
Ben writes:
This woman is somebody I have seen linked quite a few times at Evangelical news sites. She writes over at the Alan Keyes site. Unfortunately, she is a microcosm of most pro-Israel Evangelicals in this country. Look at this opening paragraph…
There is no longer a reason to dance around the topic or mince any words. Those who oppose the president’s new plans for Iraq are trying so to prevent him from doing his job as Commander-In-Chief. They want to render him useless and humiliate him.
She goes on slamming Democrats but her message is not just against them, it’s against anybody who disagrees with Bush. The rest is just as ridiculous as the opening paragraph…..
As the holidays passed President George Bush carefully waited and conferred with the very best of strategists. His plan to help Iraq is sound and it will work. Iraq will be a country to promote democracy throughout the Middle East, and not a place where terrorists can launch their anger upon America or any other nation.
However, once again the media and others in this country are out there emboldening the Jihadis, displaying their foolish insolence.
LA replies:
Well, combine the evangelical emotion-centered outlook toward God with politics, and you have evangelical emotion-centered identification with the president of the U.S. Not good.
Ben replies:
Yeah, you have hit on something there. When I read these articles from them and even read their forums, they have such an emotional attachment to Bush.
