Students seek firing of Oxford professor who criticizes immigration

Demographer and Oxford Professor David Coleman, co-founder of the very moderate immigration think tank MigrationWatch, has come under attack from the Oxford Student Action for Refugees. The group is circulating a petition saying that (in the Daily Mail’s words) “because MigrationWatch warns about the negative effects of present and future immigration, it is inherently racist.” In other words, only one position on immigration—unqualified approval—is to be permitted in the university. Coleman has been defended by various academics, and he questions whether the students involved in such an effort should be allowed to remain in the university. Right on. This is the first time I can think of that a target of leftwingers seeking to expel non-leftwingers from a university has said flat-out that such people do not belong in a university themselves.
