One should never be where one is not wanted
Recently I wrote about the praise for the Clintons issued by Christopher Ruddy, the editor in chief of
NewsMax, who in the 1990s had been one of the Clintons’ most vigorous critics. I wrote regularly for
NewsMax in 2000 and 2001 (links to my articles can be found
here). My March 2000
article, “McCain: A Dangerous Man Reflecting the Triumph of Clintonism,” was the first thing I ever published on the Web (and, making my day, Rush Limbaugh read a long excerpt from it on his radio program). But in September 2001, after Ruddy repeatedly shot down my proposals for articles, I gave up trying to write for him. The following exchange between us, which took place after the 9/11 attack on America, gives an idea of why I gave up.
LA to Christopher Ruddy, September 11, 2001
I’d like to write something for you on the background of this, the pattern of passivity that has made this possible:
After ‘93 WTC bombing, Clinton and Dinkins’ main response was that we (i.e America) should not blame anyone for this. The main threat our leaders saw was the threat coming from US, not from our enemies.
When it emerged in the WTC bombing trial that the intent of the terrorists was to topple the buildings, this WAS BARELY COVERED IN THE MEDIA.
(I have quotes from the one of the WTC bombers how they wanted to “topple these towers of which they are so proud.”)
When a couple of years ago a plan to set off a terrorist attack in the NYC subway was narrowly averted, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE.
Meanwhile, Clinton and Bush were as friendly with terrorist-associated Arab-America groups as they could be, while also treating Palestinian terrorism as the moral equalivalent of Israeli self-defense.
Then there was the TWA crash investigation which showed how our own authorities are sneaky, passive bureaucrats, and never get at the truth of things. (Not to mention other recent investigations which show our authorities are not upstanding Americans doing their job, but have some other agenda.)
Then there were the attacks in Africa and and Lockerbee plane attack, to which our response was CRIMINAL TRIALS NOT MILITARY RESPONSE.
Then the Egypt Air crash simply VANISHED from the media, as though it had never happened.
Will even this unprecedented attack wake America up?
Ruddy to LA, September 11, 2001:
I think right now we need to rally the country, not point fingers.
LA to Ruddy, September 13, 2001:
Two days ago, telling me that you didn’t want to “point fingers,” you turned down my proposed article in which I planned to catalog America’s passivity in the face of past terrorism that had led to this catastrophe. Then the next day you publish this. Is this not “pointing fingers”?
Adm. Moorer: Clinton Policies Led to Disaster
NewsMax.com
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001
The catastrophe that struck America was the result of a decade of military cuts and the undermining of U.S. intelligence agencies, Admiral Thomas H. Moorer told NewsMax.com …
