It is never as good the second time
Today there is no joy in Mudville. The New York Times reports:
LOS ANGELES, May 1—Tens of thousands of people pressing for immigrants’ rights demonstrated on Tuesday in dozens of cities. But with advocates splintered over tactics, the crowds paled in comparison with the turnout last year.Sounds like good news to me.
Talking over the din of drums and chanting at the Chicago march, Esmeralda Marin, 30, a Mexican-American, said she was demonstrating to denounce the government raids, which have led to an increase in deportations in the last year.Sounds even better.
“The political climate last year was passionate, energetic, dramatic,” said Armando Navarro, a professor of ethnic studies at the University of California, Riverside, who helped organize marches here last year. “This year, it is one of uncertainty, doubt, fear, things that are not encouraging of participation and impede in many ways people from participating.”Ditto!

Think you’re getting the straight story from the mainstream media re today’s “Immigrant Rights” marches? Wonder why all the shots seem to show cute, doe-eyed babies swaddled in American flags and not fist-brandishing reconquistas carrying signs pledging to drive Anglos out of the southwest? Take a look at this cameraman from Houston’s NBC affiliate, which was responsible for feeding video to the entire NBC network. Notice that he’s obviously a Mestizo Mexican, and that he openly, proudly and arrogantly displays the flag of Mexico on his camera.Eric E. writes:
Why are we tolerating tens of thousands of illegal aliens to demonstrate in our streets while American men and women are fighting and dying overseas? This is mind boggling to me. Yet I have not heard one pundit on TV or the web say it. Is it not madness to conceive of it?Paul Nachman writes to the Los Angeles Times:

Oh, so that’s Hispanics’ problem. They’ve been paying too much attention to algebra.Mark P. writes:
