An apology, or, rather, an apologia
I’m sure some readers are heartily sick of the Mills / Horowitz / Auster controversy, and I am sorry about that. However, (1) it’s what’s been happening this past week, and had to be dealt with; and (2) it’s not just a personal issue related to myself, but touches in a deep way on the confrontation between traditionalism and liberalism, which is, after all, what this website is about. Also, the topic has inspired some exceptionally interesting and profound analysis by VFR readers. See in particular the long comment by M. Mason in the entry entitled “Betrayal.”
David H. writes:
About the Horowitz circumstance, I am in no way “sick” of reading about it. On the contrary, I know you have to respond to these charges and you have done so with strength and ability. My respect for you has increased Lawrence, especially for the fortitude you have shown in face of this most dangerous of accusations (which should not be so dire, but thus is the liberal world in which we live).
