The ridiculous Ben Stein

David B. writes:

You might remember this thread from last September regarding the Sage of Beverly Hills and Malibu.

Well, he’s even worse in the last two issues of The American Spectator. In April, he’s having dinner with a friend named Serge, who is a businessman from Brussels. Serge is moving to Israel “part time” and New York “part time.” This is because the “Muslims in Belgium are so hostile to Jews that it’s not safe for Jews there any longer.” Serge says, “there’s no future for Jews in Europe. Hitler wanted it and now Europe is going to get it.”

To this, Ben Stein writes, “That seemed terrifying but a trifle farfetched. I mean leaders of both leading British parties are Jews. Angela Merkel is a good friend of Israel. In downtown Berlin, there is a new large memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe. I am sure that the Muslims are a real problem, but in some ways life seems very successful for Jews.” Stein then says that he and his wife are going to visit Berlin.

In the May issue, Stein takes a flight and is sitting beside a “friendly African-American man,” who was a policeman going to a conference on “crackdowns on gangs.” Stein then writes in parentheses “(I want to explain here that gang violence is a totally non-racial phenomenon. There are at least as many violent gang member who are white as there are who are black or Hispanic.)” Stein then says that he and the black man had demonstrated together against civil-rights abuses against blacks in Cambridge, Maryland long, long ago. “We had a lengthy talk about the effects of desegregation and we both decided it had been a complete and total success.” (I think the black policeman may have told Stein that “there are as many white gang members.)

Stein’s main schtick these days is hosannas to what a great, glorious, fabulous country America is now that it has gotten rid of racism. Regarding Muslims, Stein seems to welcome the increased Islamic presence in Europe, and the United States.
