The more they try, the phonier they sound

The hilarious dilemma of liberal patriotism, as I called it in a piece at FP, came into existence in the wake of the 9/11 attack, when liberals, who normally regard love of country as creepy and evil, felt constrained to act patriotic, but could not sound sincere for the life of them.
