Note: Though Lieberman was elected as an Independent, I include him with the Democrats, for two reasons: he caucuses with the Democrats, and he did not run as an Independent out of desire but because he was defeated in the Democratic primary. I believe Sanders also caucuses with the Democrats, but he has been an Independent for many years, first as a congressman, and now as a senator.
