Muslims want to get far away from the Muslim world—hey, what about us?
Sweden, according to the BBC, takes in far more Iraqi asylees than any other European country. There are now 80,000 Iraqis in Sweden, with 20,000 more asylees expected to be processed this year. “We wanted to get as far away from Iraq as possible,” says Halim Ibrahim, who has moved to Sweden with his family. No offense intended toward Halim, who I’m sure is a fine fellow, but, as a general matter, Halim’s desire to “get as far away from Iraq as possible” is precisely my feeling—and the feeling that all sane Westerners should have—toward Muslims:
All I really want to doAnd let’s not forget: if bringing democracy to the Iraqis had such catastrophic effects that it has caused millions of Iraqis to flee Iraq, wouldn’t it also be catastrophic to bring bring Iraqis to a democracy? The problem is not just that by admitting Muslim asylum seekers, a Western country is increasing its generic Muslim problem; it is very likely increasing its terrorism problem. According to the London Times (via ParaPundit), one out of four persons arrested in the UK between 2001 and 2005 on terrorism charges was an asylum seeker. Gosh, if we can’t trust Muslim medical doctors, and if we can’t trust Muslim asylum seekers, and we can’t trust Muslim moderates, what Muslims can we trust?
