Tancredo is the man

I love Tom Tancredo and hope he is elected president.

In response to the last question in the Republican so-called debate on Sunday, “George Bush said in 2000 that he would restore honor and dignity to the Oval Office, what would you restore to the Oval Office?”, Tancredo said (paraphrase), “A love and understanding and appreciation of Western civilization. If we stood again for Western civilization, other countries would respect us again.”

It’s a profound statement. If instead of promoting, Bush-like, an abstract idea of universal democracy for the whole world, especially Muslims, while telling everyone, especially Muslims, that they’re all just like us, because they all believe in universal democracy, just like us, a message that makes Bush and America seem creepily out of touch, irritating, and menacing all at the same time, the American president began to uphold our historic civilization and nation, America would regain genuine self-respect and the respect of others.

No presidential candidate in historical memory has spoken of our cultural and civilizational identity the way Tancredo does. He is truly the candidate of traditional conservatism.

Some say that Tancredo is not a serious candidate because he doesn’t speak smoothly, he sometimes hesitates, and stumbles over his words. I don’t see it that way. To me his occasional searches for the right word show sincerity and virtue.
