Our approaching Day of Reckoning

I saw Patrick Buchanan being interviewed tonight by Glenn Beck about his new book, Day of Reckoning. It sounds like a timely theme. Buchanan is looking at each of the current trends that seem deadly for our society—immigration, the trade deficit, the falling dollar, the out of control outlays for retirement programs and so on—and bringing them all altogether in order to get a picture of the whole. However, let’s hope that Buchanan in this book is more Josiah than Jeremiah. Josiah was the king who led the people of Judah back to the right path. Jeremiah was the prophet who told the people of Judah that the ruin coming upon them was sent by God because they deserved it, and therefore that nothing could or should be done to forestall it.
