Two unserious conservatives bewail the spreading Islamic influence in Britain
Mark Steyn at the Corner quotes Peter Hitchens at the Mail:
The deeply English, deeply Christian city of Oxford, one of the homes of free thought, is now being asked to accept the Islamic call to prayer wafting from mosque loudspeakers over its spires and domes. To which Steyn replies:
It may be a “wholly different culture”, but unlike the spires of those empty Anglican churches it represents the demographic energy of today’s England.“The demographic energy.” As though this were a result of birthrates rather than of the immigration policy that brought Muslims into Britain and is still doing so. As though there were nothing that could be done about this.
Meanwhile, Hitchens, as I showed recently, blames the rise of Islam in Britain not on Muslim immigration but on “multiculturalism.” He says that to allow the regular electronic proclamation of Allah’s supremacy in a British city is to surrender to a wholly different culture. But how did that culture get into Britain? Hitchens has never plainly and unambiguously said that that culture was brought into Britain by immigration, that such immigration should never have been allowed in the first place, and that is should be immediately stopped.
