New Hampshire

At 9:05, with 22 percent of precincts reporting, Clinton leads Obama 40 to 36. Just yesterday the hive-like media were all saying breathlessly that Obama was riding a huge wave in New Hampshire and would crush Hillary. Obama may yet win, but it’s certainly not the tsunami inaugurating the New Age that the media were talking about.

If America is not to be drowned in an ocean of liberal fantasy telling us that “Obama is our savior, he makes us happy, he makes us all one, he creates the world anew,” then Obama’s five-day old “inevitability” must be checked. On the Democratic left, Hillary Clinton has become the voice of relative sanity.

Today, people treat the latest trend of the moment as though it will be permanent, so that certain predictions can be based on it, and then, when the trend changes a moment later, they treat that trend as permanent. It’s as though no one today wants to observe and experience reality as it unfolds. Everybody wants to predict and prophecy reality instead.

As for Romney’s disappointing defeat to McCain, see my article, “How Romney can survive a loss in New Hampshire and win the nomination.”
