A new McCain?

In an interesting article, Richard Lowry shows in action the “new” John McCain, the post-June 28, 2007 John McCain (that’s the day the McCain-Kennedy Kill-America Act was killed), “restraining himself to stay just on the right side of the constituencies he knows from bitter experience can deny him the nomination again.” Lowry shows McCain speaking a language about enforcing immigration laws and protecting our borders that he’s never spoken before. Lowry doesn’t seem to believe it, but he also doesn’t seem to mind. After all, isn’t this exactly Lowry has been advising McCain to do all along—change the way he talks about the issue, and thus give National Review the cover to endorse his candidacy?
