It’s over

Hugh Hewitt, Mitt Romney’s most committed supporter in the mainstream conservative media, has all but admitted defeat: “Senator McCain has a clear path to the nomination, Romney a very uphill battle…” He says Romney and Huckabee should stay in the campaign for the time being, “because it isn’t over and because our side needs the excitement of a campaign in such key falls states as Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania to keep the MSM from turning 100% of its attention on to growing the Obama phenomenon.” At the same time, Hewitt advises the Romney and Huckabee supporters to start preparing to back McCain in the fall, and he gives his reasons why they should do this.

Meaning, it’s over.

After Bush BushAgain Dole Bush2 Bush2Again it should be easy for many “conservatives” to back McCain. They already are backing McCain.

From the radical American fringe, a note to Hewitt and his ilk:

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.—Samuel Adams
