Hillary, Obama, borders
Here is a cornucopia of comments made by Obama and Hillary about immigration, border security, and related topics at their debate in Austin, Texas the other evening. I’ll have to go back and read it again to try to get any sense out of it. My continuing impression remains that Hillary, notwithstanding her deep-seated leftism, always tries to maintain some sort of relationship with rationality and a notion of the common good. Thus:
On a question about America becoming a bilingual nation, Clinton said she thinks it’s important for English to “remain our common unifying language,” but she said she “adamantly” opposes effort to make English the official language. “But I do think that English does remain an important part of the American experience. So I encourage people to become bilingual. But I also want to see English remain the common, unifying language of our country.” Posted by Lawrence Auster at February 23, 2008 01:05 AM | Send Email entry |
