Pipes’s latest turn—could it be real this time?
Daniel Pipes seems to be speaking in a new voice today at FrontPage Magazine, sort of, kind of, supporting efforts by Europeans to save their continent from Islamization. He says: “Unlike [Magdi] Allam and [Geert] Wilders, I do distinguish between Islam and Islamism, but I believe it imperative that their ideas get a fair hearing, without vituperation or punishment. An honest debate over Islam must take place.” The problem is that so long as Pipes keeps insisting on his fantasy that Islam can be reformed, he will keep undercutting any serious effort to protect the West from Islam.
