American liberalism—savior of Soviet Communism?
In an entry that started out on the subject of Powerline’s apparent embrace of Rockefeller Republicanism (which Powerline in an e-mail to a reader denies having done), Mencius Moldbug argues that the problem of American liberalism goes back before the postwar period to early in the 20th century. He says, “The very existence of the Soviet Union, at least post 1919, was due to American liberals.” I question that view, and to back it up he quotes a book by Herbert Hoover about the U.S. decision in 1919 not to participate in an international effort to overthrow the Communists. I still think his conclusion is overstated, however. Posted by Lawrence Auster at April 03, 2008 01:32 AM | Send Email entry |
