Reaction against illegal influx in North Carolina?

I live in North Carolina, which is one of the fastest growing states in the nation, a lot of it by immigration. During the 1990s, the state’s population increased by 21 percent. This rapid growth has continued. As you well know, this is the deep South, where most of the nation’s blacks live, so racial struggle and strife have been continuous. You can imagine how odd it is to see the Hispanics flooding in from California and Texas, etc. There is a great deal of hostility to them among many of the whites I’ve spoken to. I even had a college teacher down here advise me to read Pat Buchanan’s book Death of the West. I moved to NC from an almost all white town in Virginia in 1999. There were almost no Mexicans here then, now they are everywhere. Most of the whites I’ve talked to about it do fear becoming a minority, and seem angry about it. I’ve noticed a definite shift in the wind here. I hope it goes somewhere this time, but I can’t let my hopes up too high only to be dashed again.
