The ultimate Michelle Obamage?

Blogger Larry Johnson, whose slogan is “Tired of spin? Larry Johnson offers no quarter on issues of your security,” writes: “I now have it from three sources close to senior Republicans that they have video dynamite—Michelle Obama railing against ‘whitey’ at Jeremiah Wright’s church.” He thinks the Republicans will hold the clip to use against in the fall.

Some may feel that such a tape assures the defeat of Obama. But for me the story brings up memories of President Clinton’s supposed “blow-up” at his grand jury testimony in August or September 1998. Republican radio hosts slavered for days over the great moment that was coming when the tape would be shown on TV and decisively destroy Clinton. But when the tape was broadcast and it contained no self-discrediting Clinton blow-up, it turned into the decisive moment that assured Clinton’s survival. I always thought that Clinton’s people, in a brilliant move, planted this story among the stupid and over-eager conservative talking heads, knowing how they would overplay it.

Forget about it. I can tell you right now that it—whatever it is—is a non-starter.

People’s minds are already made up regarding the grievance-mongering Michelle who is even more racially polarizing than her husband. Many whites already dislike her. And I understand from a recent entry over at the casual Steve Sailer’s blog that blacks, particularly black women, really really like her:

“Why do black people love Obama? In large part, it’s because of the dark-skinned woman on his arm. Black people (especially black women) are nuts for Michelle. Had Barack married a white woman, his candidacy would’ve never gotten off the ground with black people.”

LA replies:

Naturally she would be popular among black women. As I’ve written about her:

Michelle evinces a typical characteristic of many black women in America: fixed intense anger as the organizing force of her personality.

If this video does indeed exist and Larry Johnson has updated his post to say that he now has four sources indicating it does, then I will promise you that the Clinton machine knows it exists too. The crushing victory of Hillary in West Virginia unnerved a lot of democrats because it exposed widely that Obama cannot win anything but the black vote and a few stupid college kids. That will not win the general election. So, watch Hillary trot this video out come late June or early July, watch the democrats realize that they cannot nominate Obama because he will lose, and watch Hillary get the nomination at the convention.

Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States, and I NEVER in a thousand years would have believed that I would say the following words, but, it is a good thing she will be considering the alternatives.

LA replies:

A problem with this theory is that Hillary did nothing on the Rev. Wright front, other than one lame comment that she would not have stayed in that church. The famous Clinton dirt-searching machine did nothing to dig up the damning truth, which was found instead by ABC.

People think of the Clinton machine as being some huge, invincible thing because of the successful defense of President Clinton in the 1990s. They forget that much of the heavy lifting and routine water-carrying for the Clintons was done by the mainstream media: the New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, NPR, and the various magazines such as Atlantic, New Yorker, New Republic, etc. This time around, since the Clintons are old hat, and the media has a new fad to pursue in Senator Obama, the Clintons are on their own for the most part.

The effects of this are pretty easy to see. Without wall to wall favorable coverage Senator Clinton has had an uphill fight for a lot of the campaign, instead of the expected coronation. Recall that one of her allegedly smart campaign operators did not even know the rules by which California allocates convention delegates! That’s not the sign of an infallible machine, that’s more like a group of people who aren’t up to their job.

Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that someone has video of Michelle Obama saying hateful, race-based things. Nor will it surprise me when the mainstream media dismisses that video as “old news,” or “just an emotional moment,” or “something we must understand given the lingering effects of racism,” etc., etc. It won’t bother the supporters of Senator Obama for a moment; many of them, including white supporters, no doubt share the hate.

I’ve long suspected that many liberals live with a lot of self-hatred; you can’t hate your country as much as they do without hating yourself as well.

LA replies:

I would lean toward N.’s view of things. At the same time, if such a tape comes out, it will have some effect on those silent voters in the middle.
