A non-liberal approach to immigration

In the long thread about sexual liberation and perversity taking over the world, which was started by our Indian reader living in the West, Sebastian says that he objects to giving the Eastern view of sexual relations any credence in our society, since the East does not share our belief in romantic love. While I felt Sebastian was being unfair to ILW, I also acknowledge the legitimacy of his underlying concerns about the impact of Eastern cultures on the West. Accordingly I lay out the road we didn’t travel—a non-liberal way of thinking about immigration, which considers both our particular customs and the particular customs of the prospective immigrants, and asks whether the latter are compatible with the former.
