Enforceable sharia nothing new, says Phillips
On the story about the decisions of sharia courts in Britain becoming enforceable by Britain courts, Melanie Phillips says that in fact nothing new has happened. She says that the decisions of Muslim tribunals to which the parties have consented to be bound have always been enforceable, or at least have been so since 1996. But she fails to explain, if absolutely nothing new has happened here, why did the London Times story even appear. Is the Times reporting on something that has happened, but exaggerating its significance? Or is it making up something that has not happened at all? Phillips does not clear up these questions.
