Left fascism in the wake of the election

Left fascism has been a powerful, even dominant, force in American universities for some time. But, as Diana West reports at her blog, since the election it seems to be breaking out across the whole country:

Conservatism isn’t simply in political retreat, it is fast traveling beyond the pale, fast becoming anathema in America…. We had support for McCain-Palin support garner a concussion for a college freshman here; an arrest for a passer-by here; and now general opprobrium and even curses here—and toward a middle schooler!

West goes on to recount the horrific story of a restaurant owner in Los Angeles subject to intimidation, threats of a boycott, and a humiliating quasi-apology session, all because she donated $100 to help pass Proposition 8. In liberal America,—and, perhaps, even more, in Obamerica—there are not two sides to an issue, there is one side. And those who are not on that one side are not fellow citizens and fellow humans, they are an enemy to be crushed. Does it not occur to the left that at some point the non-liberal non-persons may rise up and start to defend themselves?

No more than it occurs to a biracial person that to refer to a Caucasian as a “typical white person” might be offensive to many whites. Or no more than it occurs to the wife of a candidate for POTUS to say that because her husband has garnered support political support, she is proud of her country for the first time in her life might be offensive to other citizens of that country.

Those on the left are book-smart (well, some of them are) but people-dumb, about what you’d expect from those who prefer abstractions to concrete reality. And the media, itself left-wing, either ignores or glosses over these glimpses of how leftists really view non-liberal non-persons, so the left feels no need to ameliorate or apologize for their contemptuous and even hateful views, and now, actions.

But back to your (presumably rhetorical) question). So no, it probably hasn’t occurred to the left that non-liberal non-persons may rise up and start to defend themselves.

But if the responses of my family, neighbors and those I read online are any indication, it has certainly occurred to many non-liberal non-persons that they may need to defend themselves against left-wing fascism. And they are taking steps to ensure that they can.
