What is a liberal, in one sentence
In the discussion about Jonah Goldberg and his automatic support for the idea of a Muslim being president of the U.S., Spencer Warren pinpoints what it is that makes a person a liberal. It is the belief that the individual trumps the society and its tradition, even to the point of destroying the society. As I’ve said many times, liberalism can only be non-destructive if it is operating within, and is ultimately subordinate to, a moral and cultural system that is not itself liberal.
