Wolcott on VFR and Minnesota without Mexicans
James Wolcott at his Vanity Fair blog quotes in its entirety Robert B.’s recent thoughts on the beneficial ethnocultural effects of the very cold weather currently being experienced in the Twin Cities. To my surprise, Wolcott doesn’t launch into a Wolcottian diatribe, but merely notes:
Yes, nothing says Christmas at VFR like no Mexicans in the parking lots. It’s practically a Lou Dobbs Festivus miracle! That’s pretty mild stuff from James Wolcott considering the explicitly racial nature of Robert’s comment. Also, he’s way off on Dobbs. Dobbs to my knowledge never discusses immigration in racial terms, and does not even criticize immigration per se. His focus is entirely on stopping illegal immigration. I have a further response to Wolcott here, which I posted last night before I had read his blog entry.

The funny thing is, I’ll bet Wolcott, in at least a part of his psyche, resonates positively to Robert B.’s evocation of the white America that was. Of course, he can’t admit that to himself, much less to his readers, but it may explain his unwontedly moderate response. Posted by Lawrence Auster at December 24, 2008 08:50 AM | Send Email entry |
