Can the stimulus package be stopped?

The Pelosi-Obama stimulus-cum-mother-of-all-porkers package is crazy, more and more people are realizing it, and, reports Larry Kudlow at NRO, there is hope—not a probability but a hope—that the Senate may decline to pass it in its current form and change it into a bill that would actually stimulate spending and investment instead of just fill the pockets of Democratic Party constituency groups.

Terry Morris writes:

First of all, we (conservatives) shouldn’t be calling it a “stimulus package,” nor should we parrot what Obama called it today, a “recovery package.” None of these descriptives—stimulus, recovery … package (package?!)—come even close to describing what this leftist redistribution scheme really is.

Second, if I’m wrong I’ll stand up like a man and eat my very words, but I have no hope that this … monster … can be stopped, or otherwise altered in any significant way. There are simply too many McCains in the U.S. Senate.

The John Galt option is looking more inviting all the time from my seat.
