Can a material universe create consciousness?

For those who are interested, VFR’s observation of the birth of the incarnate god of liberalism continues. In the entry on how liberals would feel about their god, Charles Darwin, if they were aware of his views on racial differences, I quote several comments from the still continuing exchange at Secular Right on Darwinism, and on (as is inevitable) the question of Darwin versus God. I am glad to report that our most active opponent there, Daniel Dare, is speaking to us more respectfully than was initially the case.
