American media versus American reality

Van Wijk writes:

Last night a radio show that I listen had a segment about the occupation of Iraq. It consisted of a handful of soldiers being interviewed about what they thought of Obama’s latest pronouncement regarding the withdrawal of troops from that country. Every soldier so interviewed had a very optimistic attitude and supported Obama’s decisions.

Every soldier interviewed was either a woman or a minority. Most of their comments were either thoughtless platitudes about “finally getting on the right track” or hopes for more money and benefits (the woman I heard said that money is “always nice”, and she needed more to support her newborn son). No white males, who still make up the majority of the service, were interviewed. If they had been, I have a feeling the reaction would have been quite different.
