Why the constant attacks on “racism”?

Which is a more dangerous problem facing our society: hypocritical liberal discourse on race, or racism? Tyler Cowan thinks it’s the latter. Dennis Mangan thinks Cowan is a tool of the liberal establishment:

[L]iberals are quite alive in general to the fact that dictators or even democratically-elected leaders use the specter of enemies, external or domestic, to expand their power, so I wonder how it is that liberals don’t see that constant evocation of “racism” functions effectively the same way. Of course, it’s the liberals who gain power from this, so maybe that’s why.
