McCarthy, Afghanistan, and the neocons

Though out of power, the neocons’ devotion to democracy as the cure for “radical Islam” and as the single formula for humanity is undiminished. This is why they eagerly support Obama’s hopeless escalation in Afghanistan, and it’s why they came down hard on George Will for saying that it’s time to reduce our presence in that country. Indeed, the policy Will proposed, of removing our troops and establishing out of the way bases from which to use directed force when needed, is what I have proposed going back six years. Just as Muslims do not belong in significant numbers in any Western country, the West should not be involved in the interior affairs of any Muslim country.

Andrew McCarthy in a long article at National Review politely eviscerates the position of the democracy hawks, a.k.a. the neocons. I’ve only read half the article and will have more to say on it later.
