The present crisis
It’s not just that the world is too much with is, as Wordsworth said; it’s that the world is besieging us and attacking us from every direction at once, blowing our mental gaskets, overwhelming our ability to take it all in and respond.
Within a period of four days,
- President Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic, the last remaining obstacle to the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, surrendered and signed the treaty which the Czech legislature had approved, saying that he had no choice legally, thus sealing the transformation of the evil EU into a sovereign state beyond the power of the peoples and nations of Europe.
- An aggressively anti-American, pro-terrorist Muslim U.S. Army officer committed mass murder on an Army base, and the political and media establishment are saying that the mass murder is bigoted America’s fault, because the man’s Army colleagues “harassed” him as a Muslim and made him lose his mind. In reality, far from being harassed, he was allowed complete freedom to make his numerous blood-curdling and treasonous statements, since everyone in today’s diversity-cowed Army was afraid to make a formal complaint about him. Think of it: a jihadist enemy ensconced as a major in the U.S. Army makes classic jihadist threats against America, and then carries them out, while other Army officers do nothing to stop him; and now the U.S. establishment accuses the very people who did nothing to stop him of harassing him and so turning him into a mass murderer! Thus the powers-that-be in this country, in the name of non-discrimination, have openly declared themselves on the side of our Muslim enemies, giving them license to curse, threaten, and kill us, and condemning us as morally bad people if we even talk about the fact that adherents of Islam are a danger to us.
- And last night at 11 p.m., the U.S. House of Representatives, in one of the darkest moments of American history, passed a blatantly unconstitutional, dictatorial, socialist nightmare of a bill the intention of which is to bring all Americans under the thumb of the bureaucratic state whence they will never escape. After the vote the ecstatic Democratic leaders smiled wide and chortled in their victory. Finally they had stuck it to America good, in a way they’ve been dreaming of doing for their whole lives.
Evil is on the march, the evil of left-liberalism, and we seem to be powerless against it.
But we are not powerless, if we stand with truth and the right. Yes, at the moment the leftist evil is mounting to a peak, enabled and facilitated by the Western populations that have so far accepted its premises and so are unable or unwilling to oppose it. Yes, it may possibly destroy much of our civilization before it is done. But it cannot endure. Its very evil and falsity must ultimately destroy it.
Also, our dilemma is not new. From Psalm 40:
… innumerable evils have compassed me about; …
The Psalm continues:
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.
