The Case for the Crusades

Rodney Stark’s latest book is “God’s Battalions: The Case for the Crusades.” I saw an ad for it today in the The Wall Street Journal which states: “Respected and controversial scholar Rodney Stark challenges the liberal myths about the Christian crusades and Muslim jihad.” There are some excellent reader reviews at Amazon.com about this book.

Publishers Weekly states: “Stark … has penned a compelling argument that these bloody encounters had less to do with spreading Christianity than with responding to an ever more dangerous enemy—the emerging Islamic empire.” Seems that this would be a helpful history for those naive Westerners who think Islam is a religion of peace.
