It gets worse

I reported an hour ago that Mutallab’s father, a prominent figure in Nigeria, told the U.S. embassy six months ago that his son was an Islamic extremist. It gets worse. Here is a headline at Lucianne.com (with no link yet):

Late Breaking News!

Official says U.S. has known for two years that suspect in plane attack could have terrorist ties

It’s looking as though there are lots and lots of Nidal Hasans out there—Muslims in the West whom U.S. authorities know are jihadists, yet whom they nevertheless continue to allow to serve in the U.S. Army, to board flights from Amsterdam to Detroit, etc.

Update: A friend says, “The thinking is, ‘Gee, he’s Muslim and suspicious, so we won’t look at him.’”

Update: as of 3:50 p.m., that headline at Lucianne.com has been taken down. Maybe it was based on a broadcast report that didn’t pan out.
Update 7:44 p.m. But here’s confirmation of the item that Lucianne has taken down, from the New York Daily News:

Abdulmutallab has been on a watch list by the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center for two years, an official said. There are 550,000 people with suspected ties to terrorism on the list.
