The real obstacles the Democrats now face
Yesterday I quoted Sen. Dodd and Rep. Rangel sounding grim on the chances of passage of the health care bill. Today at Real Clear Politics Jay Cost offers a detailed analysis of the problems the House leadership face in getting to 218. Briefly, if the final bill does not contain the Stupak anti-abortion language that the House bill passed last year contained, the bill loses Stupak and ten to twelve other anti-abortion Democrats. The leadership then has to make up for the missing votes from among the 38 Blue Dog and freshman Dems who voted no on the House bill last year. Cost shows why this is doubtful.
