Multiculturalism and the “I” word
How many times has it been said—by conservatives—that the problems caused by some immigrant groups, whether Mexican, Hmong, or Mohammedan, are the result of multiculturalism? Not of the immigrants themselves, of their customs, qualities, and beliefs that they bring here with them, but of OUR society’s belief in multiculturalism which has unhappily turned these otherwise perfectly assimilable non-Westerners, who are really just like us, into problems for us? Here is a typical expression of that belief, a comment posted at Lucianne.com two days after the July 2005 London terrorist bombings.
