More on the vuvuzela

Patrick H. wrote a very interesting comment at VFR the other day in which he argued that the playing of the vuvuzela was ruining the the World Cup. I entitled the entry, “The vuvuzela and the World Cup: a symbol of the end of civilization.” Ilana Mercer has replied to Patrick at her site, arguing (if I understand her rightly) that it is incorrect to treat things as symbols of other things.
