Obama plumbs new depths of victimology
In the past, Obama’s enemies have expressed doubts as to his nationality, his religion, and even his sex (the last due to his strutting, scowling, muscle-flexing spouse). Now Obama is charging that his enemies are questioning his species as well. “Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they’re not always happy with me,” he told a Labor Day union audience in Milwaukee. “They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”
Toby Harnden, the Telegraph’s U.S. editor and an unceasing Obama critic, explains why the remark makes Obama look ridiculous. First, it carries the overtone that he is being treated the way blacks were treated under slavery and segregation. Second, Obama has himself made canine references to himself and to blacks. Right after his election as president, he described himself as a “mutt,” and recently he has called American blacks “a mongrel people.” Email entry |
