Paladino is a crackpot

Republican gubernatorial nominee Carl Paladino declared the other day that his opponent, Andrew Cuomo, had had several affairs when he was married, and he said he had proof. It was shocking and unheard-of for a candidate to make such a charge in his own words against an opponent. And then, as reported by Fredric Dicker in yesterday’s New York Post, Paladino topped off the craziness by admitting that he didn’t have the proof after all:

On Wednesday, Paladino repeatedly suggested that he had proof that Cuomo was involved with several “paramours” while married. When asked by Politico.com if he knew the names of the alleged lovers, he responded, “Three of the four.”

But the next day, he told a different story to his hometown newspaper, the Buffalo News. He admitted he had no proof and claimed he only wanted Cuomo to be asked the same personal questions he’s dealt with since admitting he fathered an out-of-wedlock child.

Can you imagine an out-of-control character like this being the governor of a state? It would be even worse than what we have now. So it looks as though we’re going to be stuck for another four years with the corrupt and vile Democrats running things. New York will continue to be the worst governed state in the Union.

Cuomo: Paladino smear hit my kids

Andrew Cuomo said yesterday that his three daughters have been hurt by rival Carl Paladino’s unsubstantiated claims that he was unfaithful to their mother, Kerry Kennedy.

“Was it negative? Was it destructive? Did my kids have to read it? Yes,” Cuomo said.

“Was it hurtful to my kids, who you know are in school? Of course it was.”

Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for governor, was commenting for the first time on the personal impact of the repeated claims made by Paladino earlier this week.

“Now he says it was a baseless accusation,” the state attorney general said during a political event on Staten Island.

“My children read the newspapers, and when I told about the negativity and the disgust, I get it first-hand from my own kids.

“It’s not easy for them to go through this and experience this, and it’s not supposed to be this way. It doesn’t have to be this way.”

However, Paladino appeared to again return to his earlier charges on Fox News Channel yesterday, as he was pressed on his initial claim to have proof of infidelities.

Paladino responded: “We will at the appropriate time, OK, say whatever we have in our, in our box. At the appropriate time, yes … What I believe and what is factual out there, we will, at the appropriate time, put out, yes.”

A Cuomo spokesman declined to comment.

Cuomo has three daughters, 14-year-old twins and a 12-year-old, from his marriage to Kerry, the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy. They divorced in 2003.

Cuomo’s comments came as he was endorsed by Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, a Conservative Party member.

Palladino is a crackpot—so what? Are we (or, I should say, the conservatives in NY) serious about getting rid of liberals or not? Of course there are people of not-so-nice character on our side. You are falling into the trap of caring what the liberals think about us. Get rid of the liberal first—then let’s attack our own side.

LA replies:

The man could not be governor, it would be chaos.

Chris H. replies:

Fine, then pick the liberal. Maybe you like liberals better than you think.

LA replies:

Get lost.

James R. writes:

Chris H. says “fine, pick the liberal” but that’s not the only choice we have, to vote for either Paladino or the mainstream crackpot, Cuomo. You don’t have to vote for either of them.

Yes, that means Cuomo, the mainstream crackpot, gets elected; but we’re not responsible for electing him. It gives the Right a chance to field a better candidate next time, one who might have a chance to accomplish some good.
