Making hobbits nonwhite, making whites nonwhite

The controversy over the refusal of the casting director for Peter Jackson’s movie of The Hobbit to cast a dark-skinned actress as a hobbit (the casting director has now been fired) has set off a big, multi-sided discussion at VFR, which continues this morning.
