The evolution of the Western elite

The shocking change in Queen Elizabeth’s manner of dress when she visits Muslim countries—from wearing Western clothes, as she used to do, to covering herself in an Islamic outfit, as she did this past week in the United Arab Emirates—suggests a general trend among Western elites with regard to Islam, a trend that is captured by the following two photographs.

The first photograph shows Mrs. Bush, the wife of the American president, visiting with Saudi women, circa 2005:

Thanks to Gintas who helped out with his PhotoShop skills.

Gintas writes:

From what I can see of the second-from-the-left woman, she looks like a man.

LA replies:

Yes, what’s that about?

A female reader writes:

The photo of the veiled women with Laura and then the photoshop of all of them veiled is hilarious, but the fun is spoiled by someone who says that Laura looks like a man. And you seem to agree. What on earth do you mean. Why such a gratuitous insult?

LA replies:

The reference was not to Laura Bush but to the figure who is sitting second from the left with face partly showing.

The human in today’s photo brings to mind a Dylan song fragment from 1966:

Well, she’s got jet pilot eyes from her hips on down.
All the bombardiers are trying to force her out of town.
She’s five feet nine and she carries a monkey wrench.
She weighs more by the foot than she does by the inch.
She got all the downtown boys, all at her command.
But you’ve got to watch her closely cause
She ain’t no woman, she’s a man.

She looks like the Emperor from the Star Wars movies to me.
