Japanese gangsters helping out

Just when I thought the Japanese situation couldn’t surprise me further, I read this.

Apparently the Yakuza (the Japanese equivalent of the Italian Mafia) is engaged in humanitarian relief efforts, sending truckloads of food, water, blankets and the like to disaster stricken regions of the country. Here is the Reuters report, and here is one from Business Insider. Amazing. This society functions so well, that even the criminal underworld lends a helping hand! If I hadn’t read this from reputable news sources, I’d think it was some joke in the style of The Onion. And yet it is real, and it is happening.
