In a comment just added to the May 9 thread on whether Islam is a religion, Thomas Bertonneau asks me: “What do people who would like to dissever Islam and the West as far as possible—what exactly do they have to gain by making an insistent point about the formal presence of Islam within the large descriptive category of religion?” I reply.
