(Update: this story has been questioned. See the story in the next
entry. But that story is also contradicted by others. If I had known there was all this contradictory information being circulated about the woman’s identity, I would not have posted this entry, which seemed to be from a solid news site.)
This story appeared in J Tribune, described as a news-oriented website (though from the way they spell “New-York” they are perhaps European), on May 17:
Ophelia Famotidina Is Dominique Strauss-Kahn Accuser
Here is the picture of Ophelia Famotidina (taken from her now deleted Facebook page) who is originally from Ghana and who is the woman allegedly raped by Dominique Strauss-Kahn who apparently briefly held her hostage in his luxurious 3000-dollar-a-night hotel room.
According to the French media Ophelia Famotidina was born on the 17th of January 1979 and is a single mother residing in Bronx, New-York with her 16 year old daughter.
Miss Ophelia Famotidina has been working for ACCOR’s Sofitel hotel for 3 years and had a spotless record as an employee which means that it will be difficult for Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers to paint her as an opportunist crying wolf to cash in.No
The International Monetary Fund chief who is on suicide watch faces up to 25 years in prison if he is found guilty of committing a first degree criminal sexual act.
While Ophelia Famotidina is in hiding after creating this media firestorm, Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be leaving Rikers Island on May 20th to face a grand jury that will decide his fate.

Jim C., who sent the story, and who previously had argued that the accuser in the DSK case was lying, writes:
She’s not the pig the French have described her as, and she looks legit. Bad news for Strauss-Kahn.
LA replies:
What is it about this story that tells you that she’s legit, whereas before you believed she wasn’t? Other than that she’s nice looking?
Jim C. replies:
By legit I mean she doesn’t look like the thugs Tawana Brawley and Crystal Mangum. At this point it is starting to appear that the alleged victim’s story is credible, although I still have an open mind given that IMF guy hasn’t told his story.
Jim C. continues:
She just looks like a nice person. If the story is true, IMF guy deserves 15 years’ hard labor, plus civil damages.
David B. writes:
Last night I watched Piers Morgan’s CNN show. Well-known defense attorneys Roy Black and Alan Dershowitz were on and discussed the Strauss-Kahn rape charges.
Dershowitz said the best defense was to go the Kobe Bryant route. Namely, paying off the accuser making her less willing to go to trial. Roy Black said “the only defense in this case is consent.” Black won the William Kennedy Smith rape trial with this tactic. Black said, in so many words, that the defense could win.
Black and Dershowitz pointed out that the NYPD stages these Perp Walks for the benefit of the media. Both expect DSK to be released on bail with the provision that he stay in the United States.
