Why isn’t Obama a white Negro?

I just saw this funny comment at a blog:

I have always said that I respected and understood Obama’s decision in his youth to identify as a black. That’s not the issue here, but the way the media constructs reality according to its own agenda. On the question of George Zimmerman’s race, look at it this way. If you had been a witness to a crime, and one of the perpetrators or victims had been George Zimmerman, and you were asked by police to provide a racial description of him, would you describe Zimmerman as white? I don’t think anyone would. But because it serves the left’s purpose to call Zimmerman white, that’s what they call him.
