Citizens’ obligations to ex-cons, cont.
The interesting discussion on society’s—and particularly businessmen’s—obligations to ex-cons, to help bring them back into society, has continued over the last few days. I highly recommend Steve R.’s most recent reply to Ken Hechtman, in which he argues that if liberals expect normal citizens to risk their well-being and safety by hiring former convicts, then the liberals need to give up something too: namely they need support a restoration of moral standards (the same moral standards the liberals have trashed for the last fifty years and are still trashing), so that there can be some reasonable assurance that ex-cons coming out of prison are penitent and not criminally minded.
