Following the dictates of female empowerment, female college student went for four-mile bike trip alone at 1:45 a.m., and disappeared

Another missing college coed. This time in Lafayette, Louisiana. Michaela (Mickey) Shunick was riding her bike home from a friend’s house at 1:45 a.m. on Saturday morning and disappeared along the way. Her home was about four miles from her friend’s home.
I send this for two reasons. First it goes with your point of how young single women still don’t take their safety seriously. I am an avid cyclist and I would never choose to ride my bike anywhere at 1:45 in the morning, prime hours either to be hit by a drunk or attacked by roving “teens” looking for prey. Of course I am a grown man. Pretty young women should have even more concern for their safety. How a young girl could possibly think that it was a good idea is mind boggling.
The second reason is the response from the Huffington Post commenters. A full third of the commenters rant about the fact that this young, pretty blonde is getting “undeserved” coverage and they see racism in the fact that HuffPo is even reporting it. To me it just affirms the utter inhuman attitude that liberals and blacks have toward white people.

Here’s the first comment I came across at Huffington Post:
31 minutes ago ( 8:46 PM)
Young males should be taught proper respect for women, and all living things, at an early age.
Unfortunately, that goes against the bloody right-wing agenda.
This will require major social change.
However, this comment was not typical. Many were saying it was very stupid of her to be biking alone late at night. Others were complaining that attention was paid to a missing white girl.
Also, Lafayette, Louisiana, where the University of Louuisiana in Lafayette is located, has a population of 120,000 and black population of 28 percent.
Also, completing the picture of idiocy, I see that Mickey Shunick has a ring in her nose.
Eric G. replies:
It’s as if they live in a parallel universe. Liberals take everything, turn it 180 degrees, and call it the truth. It has to be a disease of the mind.
