The majority versus the anti-majoritarians
Blogger Brett Stevens has a short, cogent, powerful essay on what has happened to America. It’s about the gradual takeover of the country by the “anti-majoritarians,” the collection of disparate groups and individuals who, for whatever reason, do not identify with the cultural majority of the country and seek to displace it. The current election, whatever the inadequacies of the Republicans, is a symbolic stand-off between the majority and the anti-majoritarians. Gintas writes: Another way of looking at it: America is a place of two peoples: those who call this country “home,” and those for whom America is the Global ATM dispensing a profusion of cash and prizes.LA replies: Well put.
