Gun control now?
A reader sent an
article, “Democratic lawmakers refocus on gun control in wake of NFL tragedy.”
I replied to him:
Even with the Obama regime firmly in place, this ain’t gonna happen. Democratic politicians know from bitter experience that gun control is a third rail of American politics.
Advocating gun control is like talking about the absolute priority of achieving “peace” between the Palestinians and Israel. It’s not going to happen, but political leaders feel they need to talk about it so as to establish that their hearts are in the right place.
However, I must acknowledge that it could conceivably happen, under the apocalyptic scenario presented this week by a writer at the Washington Times: the Democrats gain big majorities in both Houses and pass treaties superseding U.S. sovereignty, and in particular putting the U.S. under a global gun control regime.
